First of all, I would like to welcome you all to Veenendaal. It is an honour for me as an alderman for sports to welcome the participants of this European Youth Ultimate Championship in our city. I am particularly proud that one of the world's youngest sports takes place in Veenendaal and hope that many local spectators will encourage the athletes.

Sport has an important social function in the society of Veenendaal. Not only recreational, but also at national and international level we have we brought forth a lot of champions. Also during this EYUC our city is being represented by several players in the Dutch Under 20 Men's team. Together with players of all the other 52 teams they will compete for one of the four European titles.

From 5 to 11 August sports park De Groene Velden will be the place where the competitions are being held. Participants from 20
different nationalities will represent their country as well as possible. I wish all players and their coaches a lot of success. I look forward to
many exciting matches and hope to enjoy some of them myself as well.

I want to thank the EYUC 2017, Sportservice Veenendaal and the eighty volunteers from across Europe for their commitment and enthusiasm. You all make this championship possible. Finally, I wish everyone a good sports week with hopefully beautiful sports weather.
